Soroca is a town in the north east of Moldova, located on the right shore of the Dniester River, 160 km. from Chisinau, the capital of Moldova and in the north-east of the country border with Ukraine. With 37 500 inhabitants  is the 8th largest city in Moldova and the second in size and importance in the North (being surpassed only by Balti).
At Soroca is opened a museum of history and ethnography which includes Soroca fortress, built in stone by Stephen the Great in 1489 and renovated in its current form by Petru Rares.
At the southern entrance to the city is the natural reserve „Bechir’s Cave”. The reserve is located in a gorge carved by a stream called ravine Bechir. The slopes are steep, limestone, partially wooded. On the left side, at a height of 12-14 m was excavated monastic cave.
